Our club flies all types of models, Large and small, electric and gas. The HCRCM, an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) chartered club, is a confederation of folks who enjoy building, flying, and generally tinkering with remote controlled model aircraft. Our home field, provided for us by local government, is at the site of the closed and sealed former Hardin County landfill. We continually accept new members, with or without prior experience, and train new pilots by free of charge. We welcome anyone come out to the field and visit, talk to members, and see how much fun the sport generates. We feel that anyone can learn to fly!. Our field is approximately 60 x 500 feet in dimension, with a surface of grass. You can get to the Field from exit 94 off I-65 by traveling west on US-62 (in the direction of Super America and the Tourism Center, to US-31W (3 miles perhaps?). Turning left on US-31W and, half-circling the courthouse, continue approximately 1.5 miles to Springfield road, which is a small road to your left, immediately beside a "Car Merica". Continue down Springfield road approximately 4.1 miles and turn left onto the old landfill drive, marked by a landfill office trailer at the entrance. Continue through the gate (if locked, the field is empty) and follow the sign up the hill to the field. Most flying at the site is done in the evenings and mornings as the weather permits. Our Club dues are currently $40 per year. We require soloed pilots to acquire AMA insurance to fly at the field, since this protects pilots and spectators from any damages to persons or property due to accidents (Despite our high safety standards, people still manage to crash now and then!). AMA dues are $48, and included 2.5 million dollars of insurance coverage, plus a year's subscription to Model Aviation. Formal Club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month. During the warm weather months we try to move this meeting out to the field so we can interleave yakking with good old flying! We sponsor several events each year, as well as a mall show, a swap meet at the Pritchard Center in E-town, and a float-fly in at Freeman Lake Park in E-town. Several other outings, including Lincoln Days in Hodgenville, and the Heartland Festival in E-town, have us as flying guests. We also perform demonstrations on request. We also support and participate in Control-Line Flying, Model Rocketry, RC Helicopters, and RC Boats (all covered by AMA insurance as well. We fly all types of planes, such as Sport, Scale, Glider, Pattern, etc. Come see us. The more the
merrier! A closing bit of advice: If you buy a plane, get an experienced flyer
to check it out and help you learn to fly it. It usually only takes a few
lessons, and will save you many dollars and much frustration. After the initial
flights RC planes are quite easy to fly, but can prove a handful to the
first-time flyer. Learn to fly right, and you’ll enjoy this sport for years. Get
off on the right foot!
